Reporting to the Head of Operations, the Senior Lifting Superintendent (Senior Lifting Appointed Person) will be the single point authority, and subject matter expert for all complex lifting operations across the programme on the HARP Project, based in the North West.
Qualifications
- CSCS Card
- CPCS Blue Card (A61 Appointed Person) or equivalent industry certification
- Level 5 NVQ in Lifting Operations
- SSSTS/SMSTS
- Proven track record managing engineered heavy lifts, multi‑crane tandem lifts, or specialised transport (e.g. SPMT, jacking/skidding)
Responsibilities
- Ensuring technical compliance, defining safe systems of work and managing end‑to‑end execution of heavy lift operations
- Formulate, implement and maintain the project specific SSOW and project lifting policies
- Production, review and approval of detailed method statements, risk assessments, complex rigging calculations and 2D/3D lift plans
- Appointment of Lifting Appointed Persons assigned to sections of the programme
- Procurement of framework contracts for craneage and other lifting equipment
- Managing lifting subcontractors and crane suppliers to ensure efficient and compliant delivery of services
- Working with subcontractors and crane providers to ensure the timely preparation and approval of all lifting documentation, permits and certifications
- Day‑to‑day coordination and supervision of lifting activities to ensure works are carried out safely, efficiently, and in accordance with approved plans
- Ensure all operations meet statutory obligations under local legislation, codes of practice and safety standards including BS7121
- Functional management of all project Appointed Persons, Crane Supervisors, and Slinger/Signallers
- Assessment, audit and approval of the certifications and competencies of crane supervisors, operators and slinger‑signallers on site
- Ensuring all lifting equipment is certified, inspected and maintained in line with statutory requirements
- Planning and coordinating complex and heavy lifts, including tandem and critical lifts
- Provide technical support and guidance to delivery teams regarding lifting operations, methods and best practice
- Promoting continuous improvement, innovation and best practice in lifting operations
