The Opportunity

We are seeking an experienced Electronics Design Team Leader to take technical and people leadership responsibility within a highly specialised power electronics environment. This role sits at the heart of the development of Power Feeding Equipment (PFE) used to power critical subsea communication systems, delivering ultra-high reliability over long operational lifetimes. You will play a key role in shaping the low‑voltage (LV) side of next‑generation power converter designs, while leading and growing a small but highly skilled hardware design team. This is a hands‑on leadership role, balancing deep technical ownership (~60%) with team leadership and stakeholder management (~40%).

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, qualification, and documentation of LV hardware subsystems for high-reliability power electronics products.
  • Provide technical leadership across LV architectures, including power converters, control electronics, and measurement systems.
  • Take line management responsibility for a team of ~5 Electronic Design Engineers (with scope for growth).
  • Drive resource planning, workload allocation, mentoring, and performance management.
  • Own hardware designs end‑to‑end, from feasibility and architecture through to qualification and product support.
  • Ensure compliance with quality, safety, and regulatory standards (ISO9001, TL9000, IEC 62368-1).
  • Lead and contribute to feasibility studies and risk analysis (FMEA), EMC/environmental compliance, reliability, lifetime, manufacturability, and testability (DFx), and cost optimisation without compromising performance or quality.
  • Generate and review design documentation including schematics, specifications, test plans, reports, and manufacturing data.
  • Collaborate closely with multidisciplinary internal teams and external suppliers.

Essential Experience & Skills

  • Degree in Electrical / Electronic Engineering (or equivalent).
  • 8+ years' experience in end-to-end hardware product development involving complex electronics.
  • Strong background in low‑voltage power electronics and digital control hardware.
  • FPGA design experience is essential, including VHDL, ideally Altera (preferred) or Xilinx platforms.
  • Experience working in regulated engineering environments.
  • Proven technical leadership and people management experience, including mentoring and performance reviews.
  • Solid understanding of digital & analogue electronics, power electronics, and EMI/EMC design principles.
  • PCB design and manufacturing experience using Altium Designer (preferred); exposure to Zuken is desirable but not essential.

Tools, Processes & Standards

  • PCB and hardware design tools: Altium Designer (primary), Zuken (desirable).
  • PLM systems (e.g. Windchill or equivalent).
  • Hardware design lifecycle processes and structured QMS environments.

What We're Looking For

  • A confident technical leader who enjoys remaining hands‑on while developing others.
  • Someone comfortable operating at system level and diving into detailed design when required.
  • A collaborative communicator who can work across disciplines and manage multiple stakeholders.
  • A proactive engineer who takes ownership, drives initiatives, and delivers results.

What's On Offer

  • Competitive base salary up to £75,000.
  • £6,120 car allowance.
  • 12.5% annual bonus.
  • Long‑term career progression in a technically challenging and meaningful product environment.
  • Opportunity to influence future generations of critical power systems.
