ISS Stoxx is seeking a Principal Platform Engineer to bring expert-level technical leadership to the development and deployment of our cutting-edge financial intelligence platform. We are in the early stages of a full-scale re-architecting of our on-prem estate to a modern componentised set of solutions using GCP technologies. In this IC role, you will collaborate with Principal Engineers to own and evolve our platform architecture and interpret requirements and enterprise policies into requirements that deliver clear value. You’ll be an advocate of our platform architecture and solutions, demonstrating technical principles and business value.
You’ll be able to demonstrate comfort and success in a matrixed organisation where reporting lines do not dictate technical direction – in a culture where the global Platform Engineering function collaborates to achieve shared success. You understand that platform engineering is a service function that enables other teams to deliver value and have proven approaches to balance reactive and proactive work. You’ll be a humble expert, willing and able to meet people at their level and both help them and learn from them. You’ll lead by example, using data and proof-of-concepts to bring people along and make them successful. You’ll own deliverables as well as co-developing solutions with your peers and colleagues, to help others develop.
Responsibilities
- Drive the architecture, development and operation of Stoxx's GCP platform infrastructure.
- Ensure the platform's scalability, reliability, and efficiency meets business and client requirements.
- Develop, build and support a robust CI/CD pipeline and observability stack.
- Be the go-to person for the most critical Platform issues, leading cross-functional teams where necessary, to deliver best-in-class engineering solutions.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to enhance pipeline performance and customer satisfaction.
- Keep abreast of emerging trends and technologies in cloud management and operation, and promote them across engineering and business functions.
- Act as a mentor for other team members, advising on best practice, technology and processes.
Requirements
- At least 10 years' experience in platform engineering, with a focus on cloud solutions and implementations.
- Experience implementing developer self-service / developer experience portals.
- Strong experience of application modernisation and cloud migration programs.
- Strong Linux and Windows server experience in a high-availability 24/7 operation.
- Experience with the development and deployment of large-scale, complex technology platforms.
- Deep understanding of GCP products across database, serverless, containerization and API.
- Advanced level expertise in Terraform.
- Extensive experience in designing and implementing DevOps practices.
- Experience with two or more CI/CD solutions.
- Experience coaching and mentoring high-performing teams.
- Pragmatic experience using agile to deliver incremental value.
- Experience working in a global or multinational team setting.
- Strong documentation, communication and collaboration skills.
- Proven ability to drive innovation and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Focus on simplicity, automation and observability.
- Expertise in Python, GitHub Actions, Apigee, Airflow.
- Expertise in Observability tooling such as Prometheus/Grafana, ELK, Splunk or similar.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or related field.
This requires out-of-hours emergency support in the case of escalation.
