Role Overview
We are seeking a proactive and experienced Senior Maintenance Manager to lead and oversee maintenance operations at one of our care homes, with occasional support provided to other homes within the local Stow Healthcare portfolio. This pivotal role ensures that all areas of the home — indoors and outdoors — are maintained to the highest standards of safety, compliance, and presentation, supporting the wellbeing of residents and the operational efficiency of the home.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead and coordinate maintenance activities, ensuring timely response to repairs and preventative maintenance.
* To be part of the maintenance on-call rota for the home to provide out of hours advice and support for maintenance related emergencies.
* Carry out general maintenance tasks including plumbing, joinery, and decorating.
* Undertake painting, wallpapering, and other decorative improvements to maintain high standards of presentation.
* Apply strong DIY skills to resolve day-to-day maintenance issues efficiently and cost-effectively.
* Maintain outdoor spaces including gardens, pathways, and the exterior of buildings, ensuring they are safe, tidy, and visually appealing.
* Conduct regular site inspections to assess building condition, safety compliance, and identify areas for improvement.
* Build positive relationships with residents, ensuring their rooms and personal spaces are maintained to a high standard at all times.
* Maintain a methodical and tidy approach to work, with a strong focus on attention to detail.
* Carry out Portable Appliance Testing (PAT) to ensure electrical equipment is safe and compliant.
* Liaise with external contractors and suppliers, ensuring quality workmanship and cost-effective solutions.
* Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, fire safety standards, and CQC requirements.
* Maintain accurate records of maintenance schedules, repairs, statutory checks, and PAT testing.
* Support refurbishment and development projects, contributing technical expertise and project oversight.
* Respond to emergency maintenance issues promptly and effectively.
* Collaborate with the Home Manager and Regional Management to prioritise maintenance needs and allocate resources efficiently.
* Provide cover and support to other care homes within the local Stow Healthcare portfolio as required.
* Line Management of Maintenance Assistants and Managers within your area
* Training and upskilling the maintenance team to ensure that they are working to a high standard.
Person Specification
Essential:
* Proven experience in a senior maintenance or facilities management role, ideally within healthcare or residential settings.
* Strong knowledge of building systems, including plumbing, heating, and fire safety.
* Excellent decorating and DIY skills, with a keen eye for detail and presentation.
* Methodical and tidy approach to work, with strong organisational skills and attention to detail.
* Ability to build positive relationships with residents and staff, demonstrating empathy and professionalism.
* Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively.
* Experience or qualification in PAT testing, or willingness to undertake training.
* Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel locally when required.
* Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
* Commitment to maintaining high standards of safety and compliance.
* Satisfactory enhanced DBS check required.
Desirable:
Relevant qualifications in building maintenance, plumbing, or health and safety.
Experience working in care home environments.
Knowledge of regulatory requirements in the care sector.
Experience of managing and developing a small team.
