A leading retailer is building a brand-new development team and is looking for an accomplished Solution Design Lead (eCom, Digital) to help shape the future of their offering. Having a passion for new tech and industry trends, the Solution Design Lead (eCom, Digital) will be responsible for ensuring every solution is strategically aligned, technically coherent, and practically implementable. This involves translating complex business requirements into actionable designs that can be efficiently delivered by the development squads, while enabling informed decision-making and effective risk management by proactively identifying and communicating any risks or constraints at an early stage.
This role operates at the intersection of business and technology, engaging directly with senior stakeholders to understand strategic priorities, and working collaboratively with development teams to ensure that solutions are not only clearly defined and feasible, but also fully aligned with high standards regarding performance, security, and customer experience.
Skills and Experience
- Solid foundation from previous hands-on experience in full stack development (e.g., .NET, modern front-end frameworks such as Vue, React, Nuxt, TypeScript, HTML, CSS)
- Strong understanding of how front-end applications integrate with back-end APIs, including state management, asynchronous operations, and authentication flows, with the ability to assess design options and advise teams on integration approaches rather than implementing directly
- Familiarity with RESTful and GraphQL API consumption and integration, including security considerations and cloud-native architectures (Azure preferred)
- Working knowledge of architecture patterns, performance optimisation strategies, and security best practices
- Awareness of content delivery approaches, accessibility standards, and regulatory compliance requirements (GDPR & PECR), ensuring solutions are designed responsibly
- Experience with analytics and tag management platforms (Google Analytics, Google Tag Manager), A/B testing tools, personalisation engines, CI/CD pipelines, DevOps practices, and automated testing frameworks. Able to incorporate these capabilities into solution designs and advise on their role in delivery
- Extensive experience in designing solutions within the ecommerce sector, translating complex requirements into actionable designs for delivery teams. Proven ability to balance commercial priorities with technical feasibility
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical concepts in non-technical terms to senior stakeholders
- Skilled in facilitating workshops, design reviews, and solution walkthroughs, ensuring clarity and alignment across business and technical teams
- Strong stakeholder management skills, balancing commercial priorities with technical rigor
If you are a Solution Design Lead (eCom, Digital) looking for a chance to push boundaries, elevate design systems, and contribute to a site where performance, polish, and precision truly matter, then send your CV along with your availability.
