Security Infrastructure Engineer

Start: ASAP

Duration: 6-9 months

Location: once or twice per week in Surrey

Rate: up to Β£670 /day inside IR35

We are seeking a Security Infrastructure Engineer to support the design, configuration, and maintenance of security solutions within a Defence-focused environment.

This is a technical, client-facing role for someone who can work across cloud and on-premises infrastructure, including compute, networking, storage, virtual machines, and containers. You will support the deployment of security tools, assess existing environments, and help improve overall security maturity.

Key responsibilities

  • Support the design, configuration, and deployment of security tools.
  • Specify infrastructure requirements, including compute, storage, and network bandwidth.
  • Support cloud hosting, containers, and on-premises VM and container deployments.
  • Configure network security devices, routers, switches, VLANs, DNS, and identity management.
  • Integrate security tools with identity management solutions.
  • Develop test procedures to verify functional and non-functional requirements.
  • Research and test new technologies, adapting to unfamiliar tools and environments.
  • Act as a technical SME across deployment and configuration activities.
  • Engage with client stakeholders and communicate technical concepts clearly.

Key skills & experience

  • Experience in network design and configuration.
  • Experience deploying containers and virtual machines in cloud and on-premises environments.
  • Basic OS administration, including Linux configuration, package managers, and scripting.
  • Good understanding of TCP/IP and the ability to identify normal and abnormal network traffic.
  • Experience working across cloud compute, networking, and storage services.
  • Ability to learn new technologies and research potential solutions.
  • Strong client-facing communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective client relationships.
  • Current UK SC clearance.

Important

The role is Frimley-based with travel to client sites. The current on-site requirement is approximately 1–2 weeks per month, depending on project needs.

International travel is required, with expectations to be discussed during the interview. Candidates must be comfortable with this.
