Lab Technician (build & test)

Location: Essex (4-days on site per week)
Rate: DoE - inside IR35
We are seeking a hands-on Prototype Build & Test Technician to support an exciting R&D environment. You will build, assemble, modify, and test prototypes, test rigs, and demonstrator systems, ensuring high standards of quality, accuracy, and safety.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and modify assemblies from engineering drawings, specifications, and work instructions.
- Undertake test and measurement activities using laboratory equipment.
- Inspect builds, troubleshoot issues, and support functional testing.
- Operate and maintain workshop tools and machinery safely.
- Support continuous improvement and design for manufacturability.
- Manage laboratory materials, components, and consumables.
- Maintain a safe, organised, and compliant workshop environment.
Skills & Experience
- Hands-on experience in mechanical, electrical, or multidisciplinary assembly.
- Ability to interpret technical drawings, schematics, and engineering documentation.
- Strong problem-solving and fault-finding skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and commitment to quality.
- Flexible, proactive, and comfortable working in a fast-paced R&D environment.
- Good team player with a collaborative approach.
