The Stotfield Hotel is an independent hotel on the Moray Coastline in Lossiemouth, Scotland. We are seeking a Head Chef (or Head Cook) to join our team and prepare meals for our guests. You will work with our core menu (Fish & Chips, Steaks, Curry, etc.) and develop specials to complement the menu. The role typically serves around 20–30 covers for dinner and around 60 covers at breakfast, with occasional functions (generally around 40–80 covers) and funeral teas.

Responsibilities

  • Lead kitchen operations as Head Chef, with support from a part-time chef and a kitchen assistant; night shift helps maintain cleanliness.
  • Prepare meals to a high standard, work within the core menu, and develop daily or seasonal specials.
  • Collaborate with a small team in a close-knit environment.
  • Ensure kitchen efficiency, food safety, and consistency across all service periods.
  • Assist with scheduling, workflow, and basic administration as needed, with minimal non-kitchen admin required.
  • Support guest-facing service and maintain a positive guest experience through quality cooking.

Requirements / Qualifications

  • Good experience cooking in a commercial kitchen.
  • Candidates might be currently a sous chef looking to step up to Head Chef, or someone already at Head Chef level seeking a new environment within a friendly team.

Working Arrangements

  • Hourly rate: £15 per hour.
  • Expected around 42 hours per week, typically 5 days per week with 3 split-shift days (Breakfast then Dinner) and 2 straight-shift days (Preparation, Cleaning and Dinner).
  • Benefits include a share of pooled tips via our tronc system, participation in the company pension scheme, and accommodation if required.
  • We close for 2 weeks over Christmas and New Year.
