Freelance (Potential for Term-Time Employment)

At Storyy Group, we support young people who’ve been hardest to reach through traditional education. That includes children in care, students in hospital, learners with anxiety or trauma, and young people navigating long absences, disrupted placements, or exclusion.

We’re not here to manage behaviour or push grades above all else. We’re here to rebuild safety, trust and belief in learning, often one relationship at a time.

If you’ve worked with young people others have written off, or helped learners rebuild after trauma or instability, you’ll understand the work we’re here to do.

The Role

We’re looking for experienced professionals to support students who are currently out of school or struggling to reintegrate. These are young people navigating SEMH needs, long-term absence, EBSA, school refusal, or wider life challenges that have interrupted their education.

You’ll deliver consistent, face-to-face mentoring, stabilising, encouraging and helping learners move towards a more secure future. Your role is to help them feel safe enough to try again.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Reconnecting learners with education: You’ll support students facing school anxiety, long absence, and disconnection from learning – helping them feel safe and capable again.
  • Providing emotional and behavioural support: You’ll work with learners who may present with high levels of emotional need or dysregulation, teaching them real-time strategies to manage behaviour and build resilience.
  • Building trusted relationships: Many of the young people we work with have experienced breakdowns in trust. You’ll become a steady, calm presence in their lives – someone who listens, believes in them, and helps them move forward.
  • Working collaboratively: You’ll work alongside families, carers and school staff to create joined-up support that helps students reintegrate, rebuild confidence, and re-engage with their learning journey.

Who This Role is For

You could be a great fit if you are:

  • An experienced professional who has worked in Alternative Provision, PRUs, or specialist settings
  • Confident supporting students with SEMH, EBSA, SEND or trauma
  • Calm, patient and emotionally intelligent, even in challenging moments
  • Able to travel across Berkshire or Wiltshire for in-person sessions

You might be a former teacher, behaviour mentor, SEMH specialist or youth worker – but titles matter less than your experience, your integrity, and your ability to be present with young people who need someone in their corner.

Why Work With Storyy Group

  • You’ll make an impact: This is work that matters. You’re not just supporting a student – you’re helping change the direction of their life.
  • Ethical and fair: We keep our model lean and ethical. No inflated agency margins. Just fair pay, consistent work and a focus on the young people who need us most.
  • Admin-light: We handle logistics, scheduling and paperwork so you can focus on the student in front of you.
  • Support that’s real: We’re a community that values people. You won’t be left to do it alone – our relationship managers and safeguarding team are here to support you every step of the way.

If This Resonates

If you care deeply about learners who’ve been through a lot, if you want to do work that’s relational, not transactional, if you believe education should adapt to the student, not the other way around.
