CorsoCare Hospice is seeking a Hospice Aide. This position is full-time, Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 5 pm, covering the Medina, Broadview Hts, and surrounding areas.

Position Summary:

The Hospice Aide reports to the Clinical Manager and is expected to function as a member of the health services team. The Home Health Aide is trained to provide personal care and related services in the home. The Hospice Aide is assigned to specific patients and functions under the direction, instruction, and supervision of the Staff Registered Nurse/Case Manager, the Supervising Therapist, and Clinical Manager.

Required Experience for Hospice Aide:

  • Currently Certified as a STNA in the state of Ohio
  • Minimum of 1 year of Hospice Aide experience in a health care or home care setting
  • CPR certification preferred, but not required
  • Current driver’s license with current automobile insurance and must have reliable transportation
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Compliant with accepted standards and practices
  • Must be able to meet the physical demands of providing patient care, ambulating patients, transferring patients, assisting with exercises, etc.
  • Self-directed with the ability to work with little supervision
  • Avid team player
  • Consistently maintains a positive attitude which promotes team and optimal performance
  • Must be empathetic, nonjudgmental, tactful, responsible, adaptable, organized, and committed to the purpose and objectives of the Agency

Accountability for Hospice Aide:

  • Assist in maintaining a clean, healthful, and safe environment
  • Assist the patient with ambulation, using safe transfer and ambulation techniques
  • Assist with nourishment and fluid needs including prepared meals, feeding patient, and offering fluids
  • Reading and recording temperature, pulse, and respiration
  • Maintains basic infection control procedures
  • Adherence to the Hospice Aide care plan
  • Gives simple emotional and psychological support to the patient and other members of the household
  • Establishes a relationship with patient and family, which transmits trust and confidentiality

Responsibility for Hospice Aide:

  • Contact the Clinical Manager to inform him/her of alternate schedule for patient visits during vacation, sick days, or personal days off; report any schedule change or inability to complete assignment as scheduled
  • Accept changes/additions to schedule during staffing difficulties when necessary; accept assignment in time of emergency, regardless of any location and/or any day of the week including weekends/holidays
  • Compliance with all applicable laws, regulatory requirements, standards of practice, accreditation standards, and policies and procedures
  • Organize daily visit schedule to minimize travel time and mileage; maintain productivity according to work status
  • Maintain OSHA and infection control per policy
  • Perform other duties as assigned

General Working Conditions:

This position entails standing for long periods of time. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is required to communicate effectively with others; sit, stand, walk and use hands to handle keyboard, telephone, paper, files, and other equipment and objects. The employee is occasionally required to reach with hands and arms. This position requires the ability to review detailed documents and read computer screens. The employee will occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The work environment requires appropriate interaction with others. The noise level in the work environment is moderate. Occasional travel to different locations may be required.
