The Certified Medication Aid is responsible for the administration of medications for residents, accurate record keeping, safe storage of medications, problem resolution, and communication with residents and family. Provides resident care on occasion.
Required Experience for Medication Aide:
- Applicants must hold current certification through the Ohio Board of Nursing to administer medications. Please note: DODD Medication Certifications are not accepted at this time.
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous Healthcare, Geriatrics or experience working with the elderly population preferred.
- Certified Medication Aid with at least 2 years of related experience or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form.
- Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Accountabilities for Medication Aide:
- Timely & accountable attendance: Upholding work schedules, being ready to start on time, remaining on the job for the entire shift, and limited use of time off.
- Care for residents: Understanding and leading our 1440 care standards to meet residents\’ and families\’ needs.
- Responsible communication with families: Tactfully and promptly communicating messages with residents\’ families, ensuring clarity and understanding.
- Communicate resident changes immediately: Providing timely and detailed information to your Wellness Leader regarding any changes to a resident\’s needs or care.
Other Key Responsibilities for Medication Aide:
- Administers and accurately records medications as prescribed, following policies and regulations.
- Observes, records, and reports symptoms related to medication interactions or side effects.
- Determines and records medication effectiveness timely and accurately.
- Stores medications safely and accurately per policies and regulations.
- Monitors medication accountability during ordering, receipt, administration, and shift changes.
- Inspects, cleans, and monitors equipment and supplies, reporting issues accordingly.
- Obtains, records, and reports vital signs during medication administration.
- Practices proper infection control following OSHA standards and policies.
- Communicates clearly with residents, families, and staff, seeking clarification when needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
