Barron's is seeking a high-energy business and finance reporter based in our London bureau to cover breaking corporate, economic and market news. The role requires fast, accurate reporting in clear and simple language, often focused on U.S. equities, earnings reports, corporate developments, AI, macroeconomic trends and the intersection of trade and politics. The position also includes writing market reports, newsletter commentary, longer features and analytical pieces.
Responsibilities
- Navigate, comprehend and explain earnings reports, financial and economic updates.
- Write market commentary and newsletter posts.
- Understand corporate balance sheets and apply financial valuations and investing principles to develop original angles.
- Explain business developments in simple language and frame them from an investor’s perspective.
- Use audience data to inform judgments on story importance.
- Generate quick angles and strong ideas off the news and meet urgent deadlines multiple times a day.
- Maintain familiarity with U.S. markets and companies.
Qualifications
- At least three years of experience covering these topics as a reporter with a major news organization or in finance.
- Ability to write clearly and concisely.
- Understanding of financial markets, business and economics.
- Fantastic communication skills, emotional intelligence and common sense.
- Knowledge of SEO best practices and strong headline and lede writing.
- Calm under pressure, collaborative, diplomatic approach and confidence in making fast, well-thought-out decisions.
