Role: Senior OSINT Analyst (Tech Against Terrorism)

Location: London (hybrid, 2 days per week)

Reporting to: OSINT Lead

Role Type: Permanent

Salary: £45,000 - £52,000 per annum, depending on experience

Tech Against Terrorism aims to save lives and prevent harm by disrupting terrorist activity online and upholding human rights. We use open-source intelligence investigation, sophisticated technical tooling, and an established capacity-building apparatus for tech platforms to tackle terrorist activity online and counter the exploitation of digital spaces by terrorist and violent extremist (TVE) actors. We work closely with the United Nations, tech platforms, democratic governments, and civil society. We are seeking to scale our efforts to monitor and disrupt TVE exploitation of online spaces by expanding our established team of OSINT Analysts in hiring a Senior OSINT Analyst in the UK.

Our flagship technical product is the Terrorist Content Analytics Platform (TCAP), an alerting system to report and record terrorist or violent extremist content found online. To date, the TCAP has alerted more than 130 tech platforms to over 30,000 pieces of terrorist material on their servers. As of 2024, the TCAP also operates an archive of terrorist content to permit researchers to access terrorist material in a secure and safe location, and provide a hash-sharing capability to assist platforms in content moderation.

Please note we are unable to provide visa sponsorship for this position. Applicants must have full right to work in the UK in order to be considered. Candidates will be expected to undertake and pass a police check and additional checks for security clearance at an SC level, which typically requires a minimum of 5 years' continuous UK residency immediately prior to application.

We are particularly interested in hearing from you if you have a professional background in:

  • Developing and implementing OSINT tooling and technical solutions to problems relating to online harms
  • Product management and development
  • Data analysis, from collection to visualisation in order to extract actionable insights

The role

Senior OSINT Analysts are TAT's investigative experts. They lead the complex investigations and projects that shape how partners understand the terrorist threat, set the standard for analytical rigour, and develop the next generation of analysts.

You’ll work with a high degree of autonomy, setting the direction of your own work and identifying where the team's effort is best focused, and you’ll represent TAT with governments and tech platforms, and at external events and conferences.

Key responsibilities

  • Investigations: carry out advanced OSINT and SOCMINT investigations hands-on, design collection plans, and lead complex and sensitive investigations and intelligence requests, through to predictive assessments that inform stakeholder decisions.
  • Collection priorities: direct collection priorities for other analysts, including across TCAP, and keep our datasets enriched and current.
  • Reporting and quality: produce high-quality reporting for government and tech platform stakeholders, and provide senior quality control on others' reporting.
  • Incident response: respond in real time to terrorist incidents with an online component, alerting platforms and relevant authorities, including as part of our on-call rota.
  • Projects and procedures: lead funded projects end to end, triage priorities for yourself and others, contribute to proposals for new work, and develop workflows and SOPs.
  • Tooling and safe practice: lead the testing and adoption of new tools and techniques, working with QuantSpark's technical teams, and advise colleagues on operational security and ethics.
  • Representation: represent TAT with stakeholders and at conferences and external events, and contribute to strategic planning across the organisation.
  • Developing the team: act as the team's expert in one or more threat areas or regions, supervise and guide analysts informally, design and deliver OSINT training, and identify where the team's skills need to develop.
