About the Role
This is a newly created role at amicable, and it’s an exciting one. As our first dedicated Learning & Development Manager, you’ll shape the way our people grow, develop, and lead - building an L&D function from the ground up and embedding a culture of continuous learning and performance across the business. You’ll work closely with the Head of People & Talent and the leadership team to design and deliver learning programmes that make a real difference - from developing our people managers into confident, capable leaders, to equipping every team member with the skills they need to thrive in their role. You’ll own our leadership and management development programmes, transform our onboarding experience, and manage our apprenticeship levy to maximise the value it brings.
This isn’t a role where you’ll be designing learning in isolation. You’ll be hands-on - facilitating workshops, coaching managers, building digital learning content, and embedding learning into the rhythm of the business. You’ll be the person our people managers turn to when they want to grow their skills, and the person our leadership team relies on to build capability across the organisation. You’re passionate about developing people, thrive in a fast-paced scale-up environment, and have experience of building something meaningful.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and own amicable's L&D strategy, aligning learning with business objectives and embedding a culture of continuous development across the organisation.
- Develop and deliver leadership and management programmes that build confident, emotionally intelligent people managers who can coach, challenge, and inspire their teams.
- Design and facilitate training on key people processes - from performance reviews and probation management to giving feedback and having difficult conversations.
- Champion a performance and learning culture where high standards are clearly communicated, continuous development is embedded into everyday work, and every individual is equipped to achieve or exceed company objectives.
- Own and evolve our onboarding programme, ensuring every new starter has a structured, engaging, and values-driven experience from day one.
- Manage the apprenticeship levy to maximise long-term capability building across the business.
- Design scalable digital learning content - e-learning modules, guides, toolkits - that empowers self-directed learning at every level.
- Partner with the leadership team to identify skills gaps, development needs, and opportunities to grow talent from within.
About You
- You’re an experienced L&D professional who has designed and delivered learning programmes in a fast-paced, growing organisation - ideally a scale-up or SME where you’ve had to build from the ground up.
- You’re a confident facilitator who can hold a room - whether that’s a workshop for people managers or a coaching session with a senior leader.
- You’re passionate about developing people managers and understand the unique challenges of leading people in a growing business.
- You have hands-on experience designing digital learning content and are skilled at using e-learning tools and platforms.
- You have experience managing an apprenticeship levy and know how to maximise its value.
- You’re strategic enough to build an L&D roadmap and practical enough to deliver the workshops yourself.
- You’re empathetic, approachable, and trusted - people naturally come to you for guidance and support.
- You’re organised, self-directed, and comfortable working with a high degree of autonomy.
- You’re data-minded and use evidence to measure impact and improve programmes.
- You’re aligned with our mission and values.
