Are you an enthusiastic team player? Can you deliver exceptional results on a range of projects? We have an exciting opportunity for an Engineer to join our Geotech Division based from our office in Normanton.
The Role
As an Engineer within Story Geotech you will be providing support during all phases of the project lifecycle. You will assist the Principal Project Manager in the management and delivery of site works, and the Principal Engineer in the logging, test scheduling, and reporting phases. You will engage with the client at key project stages and agree/confirm scope and methodology to achieve the desired outcomes. You will liaise with subcontractors, labs and authorities on behalf of SPL as directed by the Principal Engineer.
Key Responsibilities:
- Plan and coordinate engineering resource and Ground Investigation works across sites.
- Deliver site operations, ensuring accurate reporting, quality control, and engineering excellence.
- Champion health, safety, and wellbeing, maintaining full compliance and a safety-first culture.
- Engage clients throughout projects to meet expectations and drive repeat business.
- Support planning, supervision, meetings, and post-site monitoring across UK projects.
The Ideal Candidate:
- Degree-qualified in Geotechnical Engineering (or a related discipline) with 4-6 years relevant industry experience.
- Holds a full UK driving licence and key certifications including IOSH, CSCS (Professionally Qualified), SSSTS, PTS, and CDM Regulations 2015 training.
- Strong technical knowledge of ground investigation techniques, procedures, BS/EN standards, and geotechnical/geo-environmental laboratory testing.
- Good understanding of Health, Safety & Environmental legislation and experience applying this in a site environment.
- Familiar with ICE/NEC/Network Rail contracts and their practical administration.
- Proficient in MS Office, with the ability to produce high-quality reports, data presentations, and site records.
- Effective communicator with strong interpersonal skills, able to build relationships with clients and work collaboratively within teams.
- Demonstrates leadership capability, sound decision-making, and high attention to detail.
- Knowledge of rail industry standards, processes, and infrastructure is advantageous.
- Flexible, mobile, and committed to working across a range of sites and project environments.
