Are you an experienced rail engineering professional looking to take ownership of technical assurance and engineering excellence on major infrastructure projects?

We are looking for an Engineering Manager to join our Eastern Region team to provide engineering oversight across a diverse portfolio of rail projects, ensuring safe, compliant, and high-quality delivery from design through to construction.

You'll play a vital role in driving engineering excellence, technical assurance, and continuous improvement while developing and supporting engineering talent across the business.

  • What You\'ll Be Doing
  • Act as the designated Contractor\'s Engineering Manager (CEM), ensuring compliance with Network Rail standards and governance requirements.
  • Lead engineering assurance activities throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Chair and contribute to design reviews, ensuring solutions are buildable, compliant and effectively manage risk.
  • Ensure suitably competent Contractor\'s Responsible Engineers (CREs) are appointed across all disciplines.
  • Review and approve key project documentation, including construction, environmental, quality and safety deliverables.
  • Lead engineering readiness reviews and provide assurance ahead of project delivery.
  • Conduct engineering audits, inspections and health checks to drive quality, safety and performance.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to project, construction and engineering teams.
  • Support temporary works management, project planning and engagement with design consultants.
  • Champion safety-by-design, quality and continuous improvement across our projects, partners and supply chain.
  • Mentor and develop engineers and CREs, supporting professional growth and capability development.
  • What We\'re Looking For

Essential

  • A Civil Engineering qualification at degree, HNC/HND level or equivalent.
  • Membership of a relevant professional body, such as ICE or REI, and evidence of progression towards professional review.
  • Experience in UK rail contracting and engineering delivery.
  • Strong understanding of Network Rail standards, engineering governance and assurance processes.
  • Confidence making engineering decisions, as well as mentoring and developing technical teams.
  • Clear communication and influencing skills, with a collaborative approach.

Desirable

  • Experience as a CEM and/or CRE within the Network Rail Agile Client Eastern model.
  • Experience in multidisciplinary engineering delivery.
  • Chartered Engineer status.
