We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced Health, Safety & Environment Manager to join our growing Energy division in Scotland – there has never been a better time to join!

THE ROLE

As HSE Manager, you will provide leadership, guidance and support to operational teams, ensuring the highest standards of Health, Safety, and Environmental performance are maintained across project activities. Working closely with project and site management teams, you will drive continual improvement, promote best practice, and ensure compliance with company management systems, industry standards, and relevant legislation. You will play a vital role in supporting the safe and successful delivery of energy projects within a civil engineering environment. This is a project-based role in the Inverness area, with regular site presence required to support project delivery and engage directly with operational teams.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Management and promotion of a proactive HSE culture focused on incident prevention, workforce wellbeing, and continuous improvement.
  • Provide professional HSE advice and support to project teams, managers, supervisors, and subcontractors.
  • Monitor compliance with company policies, procedures, management systems, and industry best practice.
  • Conduct site inspections, audits, and assurance activities, ensuring corrective actions are implemented effectively.
  • Lead and support incident investigations, root cause analysis, and emerging risk reviews.
  • Analyse HSE performance data, identify trends, and provide meaningful reporting to operational and senior management teams.
  • Drive environmental, sustainability, and social value initiatives across project activities.
  • Support the maintenance of ISO 14001, ISO 45001 and other relevant industry accreditations and certifications.
  • Identify opportunities for continuous improvement and lead initiatives that enhance operational performance and compliance.
  • Develop strong working relationships with clients, regulatory bodies, and project stakeholders to promote a positive HSE reputation.

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE

  • Will be a confident and influential HSE professional with extensive experience supporting civil engineering infrastructure projects, ideally within the Energy sector.
  • HND/degree or equivalent in Health and Safety (essential).
  • Chartered/Full Member of IOSH/IEMA (essential).
  • HND/degree or equivalent in Environment/Ecology (optional).
  • Recognised quality/auditing qualification.
  • CSCS Card holder with good working knowledge of Civil Engineering Industry Standards within an Energy environment.
  • More than 10 years’ experience of managing HSE within Civil Engineering environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
  • Strong stakeholder management skills, with customer-facing experience and the ability to engage confidently with clients, customers, and project stakeholders.
