Improve Equipment Reliability in a High-Impact Manufacturing Role

We are seeking a hands-on Reliability Engineer to improve equipment performance, reduce downtime, and strengthen preventive and predictive maintenance programs at a specialized metals manufacturing facility.

This position is ideal for a Mechanical Engineer, Maintenance Engineer, or experienced Maintenance Supervisor who can combine maintenance planning with hands-on equipment troubleshooting.

You will spend significant time on the production floor working directly with maintenance, operations, and plant leadership to improve the reliability of furnaces, presses, material-handling equipment, and other critical manufacturing assets.

This is not a strictly office-based engineering position.

The successful candidate must be comfortable investigating equipment failures firsthand, developing long-term maintenance strategies, and helping execute practical solutions.

  • What You’ll Do
  • Evaluate plant equipment and identify opportunities to improve reliability, availability, and throughput
  • Develop, document, and improve preventive maintenance programs
  • Help transition the facility from preventive maintenance toward predictive maintenance
  • Investigate chronic equipment failures and recurring production delays
  • Perform root cause analysis and develop corrective action plans
  • Troubleshoot mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and process equipment
  • Support production during unplanned equipment downtime
  • Develop maintenance schedules for repairs, shutdowns, equipment replacements, and upgrades
  • Create and update preventive maintenance tasks, work orders, equipment assets, and inspections within the CMMS
  • Maintain a critical spare-parts inventory
  • Analyze equipment performance, downtime, maintenance, and failure data
  • Prepare equipment failure reports and determine the impact of corrective actions
  • Develop cost justifications for equipment upgrades and reliability improvement projects
  • Support capital projects and major maintenance activities
  • Assist with process engineering and project engineering assignments
  • Coordinate outside contractors and service providers
  • Help develop standard operating procedures for maintenance activities
  • Monitor maintenance spending and support departmental budget goals
  • Recommend equipment modifications that improve safety, reliability, quality, and productivity
  • Lead or participate in continuous improvement initiatives
  • Develop performance metrics that support long-term equipment reliability
  • Work closely with maintenance technicians, production employees, engineers, and operations leadership
  • Must-Have Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Reliability Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline
  • At least 3–5 years of relevant engineering or industrial maintenance experience
  • Maintenance Engineering, Reliability Engineering, or Maintenance Supervisor experience
  • Hands-on mechanical troubleshooting experience
  • Experience developing or improving preventive maintenance programs
  • Experience supporting predictive maintenance initiatives
  • Strong understanding of industrial production equipment
  • Root Cause Analysis experience
  • Ability to balance maintenance planning with hands-on plant-floor support
  • Strong mechanical aptitude
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Comfortable working independently in a small manufacturing facility
  • Preferred Qualifications
  • Mechanical Engineering degree
  • Five or more years of reliability or maintenance engineering experience
  • Metals, foundry, aerospace, forging, casting, or heavy manufacturing experience
  • Experience with furnaces, presses, hydraulic equipment, or thermal-processing systems
  • FMEA experience
  • Six Sigma or Lean Manufacturing experience
  • Predictive maintenance program implementation
  • Capital project management
  • Maintenance budgeting and cost control
  • Experience developing equipment reliability metrics
  • Solid Works experience
  • Auto CAD experience
  • CMMS experience
  • Equipment and Systems

The Reliability Engineer may support equipment including

  • Industrial furnaces
  • Melting and thermal-processing equipment
  • Hydraulic presses
  • Pneumatic systems
  • Pumps and motors
  • Gearboxes and bearings

  • Strengthen preventive maintenance execution
  • Introduce additional predictive maintenance practices
  • Improve maintenance planning and scheduling
  • Identify and eliminate recurring equipment failures
  • Improve critical spare-parts management
