As a Retail Construction Project Manager, you will manage the delivery of high-end retail fit-out projects across Europe. Working alongside Project Managers and Programme Managers, you will coordinate construction activities from pre-construction through handover while progressively taking ownership of your own projects. We are looking for a candidate with a solid construction background, ideally gained with a General Contractor or construction consultancy.
- Construction Delivery & Coordination
- Handle the delivery of retail construction projects from pre-construction to handover.
- Coordinate General Contractors, architects, consultants and specialist subcontractors throughout the project lifecycle.
- Assist Project Managers in resolving technical issues, reviewing construction methodologies and monitoring project risks.
- On-Site Management & Quality Control
- Oversee site execution and inspections to guarantee adherence to safety protocols and quality benchmarks.
- Support contractors' Quality Control standards and ensure smooth turnover of MEP systems through internal Quality Assurance and Commissioning.
- Conduct field verifications of existing conditions against Contract Documents, addressing discrepancies proactively.
- Cost Management & Value Engineering
- Monitor project costs, comparing actuals with the budget to identify and implement cost-saving opportunities.
- Suggest value-engineering alternatives to optimize budgets without compromising quality.
- Create, update, and enforce overall project schedules using tools like Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project.
- Monitor progress against project milestones and highlight potential delays.
- Ensure accurate and timely documentation of all project phases, including contractor invoices, change orders, and progress reports.
- Procurement & Contract Management
- Lead project buy-outs, develop bid packages, issue RFPs, and draft contracts and Scopes of Work.
- Manage procurement processes, ensuring timely delivery of materials and services aligned with project timelines.
- Ensure projects meet regulatory requirements, local authority standards, and industry codes.
- Facilitate seamless communication between contractors, design/engineering teams, and QA/Commissioning teams.
- Provide regular updates on project progress, risks and key milestones.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, Architecture, Building Engineering or a related field—or equivalent professional experience.
- 5–10 years' experience delivering commercial construction or fit-out projects, ideally with a General Contractor, Design & Build contractor, architecture practice or construction consultancy.
- Experience in retail, hospitality or workplace fit-out is an advantage.
- Good understanding of construction methods, sequencing, MEP coordination and commercial fit-out.
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, specifications and contract documents.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Project, Primavera P6 or similar scheduling tools is an advantage.
- Excellent communication skills and confidence working with contractors, consultants and clients.
- Eagerness to learn, take ownership and progressively manage increasingly complex projects.
- Proactive, detail-oriented and willing to travel to project sites across Europe when required.
