Job Title: Caretaker
Hours: Core hours are 9:00am–5:00pm, Monday to Friday, with some flexibility required depending on the needs of the setting
Salary: 12.90 per hour
Location: Covering the Sommerset area
Purpose of the Role
The Caretaker plays a vital role in ensuring the nursery environment is safe, clean, and welcoming for children, families, and staff. They oversee the day-to-day upkeep of the building and grounds, carrying out light maintenance, cleaning, and security duties to keep the nursery running smoothly.
Key Responsibilities
- Open and close the nursery premises, ensuring the site is secure at all times.
- Carry out routine cleaning, tidying, and checks to ensure all areas are safe and ready for use.
- Undertake minor repairs such as changing lightbulbs, tightening fixtures, or painting touch-ups.
- Ensure outside areas (playgrounds, gardens, pathways) are safe, clear, and well-presented.
- Oversee waste management, recycling, and stock of cleaning materials.
Report larger repair needs promptly to the Nursery Manager or external contractors.
Support fire safety and health & safety checks (e.g. alarm testing, emergency exits, first aid boxes). - Be a welcoming presence on-site, helping to keep the nursery safe and secure for children and families.
Skills & Qualities
- Full UK driving licence
