Hello, I’m Katie, the Nursery Manager at Chesterfield. I have been part of the Chesterfield team for over 15 years. Alongside my deputy manager, we bring a wealth of early years knowledge and lead a dedicated, long‑standing team—all committed to providing the best care and learning experiences for our children. Housed in a beautiful Grade II listed building, our nursery offers a true home‑from‑home atmosphere, where every child is warmly welcomed into a close‑knit and nurturing environment. We place a strong focus on connecting with nature through our outdoor spaces, which include a teepee, vegetable patch, sensory garden, and apple trees—inviting children to explore, discover, and learn throughout all seasons.
Responsibilities
- You’ll be helping to provide cover for the children as and when needed. This could be for periods of holiday, sickness, or even vacancy gaps.
- Sometimes you'll support for a full day, or it may just be a morning or afternoon session.
- You likely start most of your days with a fully formulated plan, but that will soon get completely derailed. Pivoting when the circumstances call for it is a regular occurrence in child care!
- Creativity is key. Teaching young children allows for hands‑on arts and crafts, storytelling, exercise, and educational games.
- It’s important to keep things fresh and try new activities to keep attention spans engaged.
- Of course we work within EYFS standards, but that doesn't stop you from engaging your creative flair and enthusiasm for learning.
Qualifications & Attributes
- Ideally hold a Level 2 or above qualification, Early Years Educator / Practitioner / Nursery Nurse or similar.
- You enjoy supporting and encouraging the natural curiosity and excitement of young children and were born to teach and shape the future of our younger generations.
- You have a natural, nurturing, openness, warm and positive outlook, and you care about learning and education standards in the UK.
- We can sometimes consider unqualified Educators, so if you can demonstrate the necessary values and enthusiasm for working within this environment, submit an application.
What you'll need:
- Full and relevant Level 2 or above qualification within early years.
- Experience as an Early Years Educator (Nursery Nurse/Practitioner) or having worked with children under the age of 5, is advantageous.
- Knowledge and understanding of the EYFS is desirable.
