Job Description
Role: Project Manager
With a mechanical engineering background, as Project Manager, you will help grow the reputation and strength of Stop-choc by supporting design and manufacturing initiatives for new and existing Control & Display System solutions and on occasion for Avionics Racking and Structure projects.
You will report to the Engineering Manager on a day-to-day basis.
You will play a leading role in managing and coordinating multiple projects at any one time.
You will work closely with the Electronics and Mechanical Engineers by planning, executing and managing projects in a timely fashion including managing milestones (for invoicing), budget and keeping the schedule (project plan) up to date. The Project Manager’s role will be very much a “hands on” role with frequent communication with engineers, customers, suppliers, supply chain, in-house production, quality and sales teams.
Responsibilities:
- Work in a team on multiple projects at any one time.
- Utilise project management skills to prepare, plan and track projects, when required.
- Use Microsoft Project and Microsoft Excel, to create a detail project plan based on customer requirements and in-line with contract regulations where applicable.
- Track project hours: planned v spent
- Review and understand customer requirement specifications.
- Be aware of any contractual requirements.
- Reporting on a regular basis project progress, using KPI’s.
- Helping coordinate the project team, identifying priorities where necessary.
- Able to communicate effectively to all key internal and external stake holders.
- Able to elevate topics through the right channels when necessary.
- Able to negotiate with key internal and external stakeholders.
- Identify, record and monitor ongoing project risk, and conduct risk management strategies where appropriate.
- Have a good understanding of international electrical and electronic design and testing specifications, including military standards and related specifications.
- Have an awareness of MTBF calculations and reliability prediction calculations.
- Have a good understanding of component obsolescence.
- Prepare and submit technical reports, DRL’s and other deliverable contractual documentation.
- Have a high level of organisational skills, including electronic filing and management of project related documentation.
- Prepare documentation for qualification testing in line with customer requirements, including resource planning to support a testing programme.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Prince 2 (preferably)
- Ability to work to tight deadlines.
- Practical – i.e. able to gather test equipment and cables, prior to testing
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Excellent communication skills, specifically with clients, subcontractors & suppliers.
- Exceptional organisation skills and time management.
- Experience to read and understand 2D drawings, requirement specifications etc.
- Have a good understanding of electro-mechanical systems.
- Aerospace and defence background desirable.
Pre-employment you will be required to undertake a basic security check known as Baseline Personnel Security Standard (BPSS) as a minimum. SC may be required, depending on the project.
