Are you an experienced Lead Scrub Practitioner ready to take the next step in your career?

We are working in partnership with a respected private healthcare provider to recruit an experienced Lead Scrub Practitioner to join its operating theatre team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a motivated and clinically skilled theatre professional to take on a leadership role, support the delivery of exceptional patient care, and help drive clinical excellence within a high-quality surgical environment.

The Role

As Lead Scrub Practitioner, you will provide clinical leadership and direction to the theatre team, ensuring the safe, effective and efficient delivery of patient care. You will lead by example, maintain high clinical standards and support the development of colleagues while contributing to the smooth running of theatre services.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Providing clinical leadership and supporting the day-to-day management of the operating theatre environment.
  • Delivering safe, high-quality, evidence-based patient care throughout surgical procedures.
  • Working closely with surgeons, consultants and multidisciplinary colleagues to ensure effective preparation and delivery of theatre lists.
  • Supervising, mentoring and developing junior staff, including supporting new team members through their induction and competency development.
  • Deputising for the Theatre Manager when required.
  • Ensuring compliance with infection prevention and control standards, clinical governance requirements, CQC regulations and relevant policies.
  • Monitoring clinical risks, reporting incidents and contributing to clinical audits and service improvement initiatives.
  • Managing theatre equipment, consumables and clinical stock to support efficient service delivery.
  • Promoting patient safety, dignity, confidentiality and an excellent patient experience.
  • Participating in the out-of-hours on-call theatre rota.

About You

We are looking for a confident, proactive and compassionate theatre professional who combines excellent clinical skills with the ability to lead, motivate and develop a team.

  • Current NMC registration as a Registered Nurse or HCPC registration as an Operating Department Practitioner (ODP).
  • Proven experience working as a Scrub Practitioner within an operating theatre environment.
  • A minimum of two years' post-registration experience, with relevant clinical skills and specialist experience.
  • A recognised teaching and assessing qualification.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Strong clinical assessment, critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational abilities.
  • Experience mentoring, supporting or developing colleagues.
  • A sound understanding of theatre standards, patient safety, infection control, health and safety, and CQC requirements.
  • The ability to work effectively under pressure while maintaining accuracy and high standards of care.

Experience within the private healthcare sector is desirable but not essential. A recognised theatre course and experience across other theatre disciplines, including anaesthetics and recovery, would also be advantageous.

What's on Offer?

  • A permanent, full-time opportunity within a private healthcare setting.
  • The opportunity to take a leading role in clinical practice and team development.
  • Scope to contribute to service improvement and the ongoing development of theatre services.
  • An environment focused on patient safety, clinical excellence and professional development.
