We are Stonewall: a leading LGBTQ+ charity working to make the world a safe and equal place for LGBTQ+ people to live, work and thrive. Stonewall is part of a vibrant, growing and global movement advocating for LGBTQ+ rights. Over the last 35+ years, we have helped create transformative change in the lives of LGBTQ+ people in the UK, driving positive change in public attitudes and policy. We deliver campaigns, programmes, and policy work focused on achieving deep, sustainable change, through convening, collaboration, and conversation.
We face increasing opposition to the belief that everyone deserves equal rights. It is more important than ever that we stand firm and advocate for what we know to be true: Everyone, everywhere, deserves equal rights.
Purpose of the Role
As Digital Content Officer, you will bring Stonewall's campaigns and communications to life across our digital channels. You will create compelling, on-brand content for social media and our website, and manage our Google Ads account, helping us reach, engage and mobilise LGBTQ+ people and allies at a time when that reach matters more than ever. The role reports to the Senior Communications and Campaigns Manager. There is no line management, though you may occasionally support the induction of volunteers or freelancers.
The Role
- Draft engaging, on-brand social media posts, adapting tone and format to suit each platform and audience.
- Create digital content — graphics, short-form video, animations and other assets — to support campaigns, fundraising and general communications.
- Plan and deliver creative social media campaigns with colleagues across Communications, Campaigns and Policy, bringing key moments and messages to life.
- Update and maintain sections of the Stonewall website, ensuring content is accurate, on-brand and up to date.
- Manage and optimise our Google Ads account, monitoring performance and recommending improvements to reach and cost-effectiveness.
- Support the planning of a regular content calendar, balancing planned campaign content with timely, reactive posts.
- Monitor social media channels, responding to or flagging enquiries and comments as appropriate.
- Report on basic KPIs and analytics from social channels, the website and Google Ads, using these to inform future content and drive engagement.
- Keep up to date with platform changes, trends and best practice, bringing fresh ideas to the team while keeping our tone in line with Stonewall's values.
- Tailor and adapt communications and content to reach different audiences and platforms.
What We're Looking For
- Ability to deliver against objectives, managing your own workload across a 3-day week.
- Strong copywriting skills, with an understanding of how to engage mass audiences.
- Experience creating content for social media platforms, and an understanding of how format and tone differ across channels.
- Experience analysing algorithms and adapting strategy and content to maximise engagement.
- Confident using design and content tools (e.g. Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, CapCut or similar) to produce graphics and short-form video.
- Experience updating website content using a content management system (CMS).
- Experience managing or optimising a Google Ads account, or a willingness to learn quickly.
- Comfortable using social media and website analytics to inform content decisions.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities.
- An excellent communicator, comfortable commissioning external contributors or freelancers when needed.
- Comfortable presenting or being on-camera is desirable, but not essential.
Behaviours
- A commitment to and ability to role model Stonewall's vision, purpose and values.
- A commitment to LGBTQ+ rights and our approach to race equity and Trans+ Inclusion.
- Aware of intersections of oppression and an understanding of power and privilege in the workplace.
- Builds positive relationships internally and positively seeks advice to manage any conflict.
- Delivery-focused and able to deliver to challenging deadlines.
- Committed to learning, and comfortable receiving and providing feedback and challenge.
Benefits
- A 9 day fortnight working pattern.
- 25 days of annual leave, rising by 1 day per year of service to a maximum of 30 days pro rata.
- Pension contribution of up to 7% of salary.
- Health insurance, subject to successful probation.
- Death in Service benefit of two times your salary.
- Interest free loan on travelcard.
- Tax-free cycle scheme.
- Enhanced family policies.
- 24-hour employee support line.
