A private equity backed scaling media business is seeking a Head of Finance to join their team, this is a great opportunity to gain experience within a PE environment. The successful candidate will partner the CEO to set the financial direction of the business: build a robust reporting and forecasting engine, help improve margins through pricing and delivery insight, and strengthen financial control and cash management. You will lead a small finance team and make Paprika-driven data genuinely decision-useful (revenue/margin by client, sector, product and channel). Looking for a candidate from an SME or scale up background.

Key responsibilities:

  • Commercial finance & decision support
  • Build dashboards and monthly reporting showing revenue and profitability by client / sector / product / service line / lead source
  • Analyse historic jobs and current pipeline to identify margin drivers, scope creep patterns, and delivery inefficiencies
  • Establish pricing discipline: analyse existing rate cards, discount guardrails, approval process, and post-job margin reviews
  • Create additional incentive mechanisms (e.g. margin gain sharing) aligned to gross margin and delivery
  • Analyse marketing spends what works/doesn’t and help advise on direction as interim Board member
  • Planning, forecasting and cash
    • Run annual budget 12-month rolling forecast; produce scenario models for growth plans
    • Implement cash and working capital management (billing cadence, cashflow etc)
    • Improve revenue recognition (advise on ops for retainers vs projects etc)
  • Operations / utilisation
    • Implement timesheet compliance and utilisation reporting (definitions, targets, weekly visibility) across the business
    • Capacity planning: match resourcing to pipeline, identify hire vs freelancer mix to protect delivery margin
  • Financial control & governance
    • Oversee month-end close and management accounts; ensure accounting accuracy and clean audit trail with incumbent team
    • Improve processes, controls, and documentation (approval limits, purchase controls, credit cards, client contract financial checks)
    • Manage external providers (accountants, payroll, tax advisers) as needed with Group CFO
  • Team leadership
    • Lead and develop the finance function (currently 1 accountant & 2 bookkeepers): clear roles, routines, training, and performance standards
