I am currently supporting a South London Local Authority with the recruitment of an experienced Private Sector Housing Officer for an initial 6-month contract. This is an excellent opportunity to join a high-performing team and contribute towards raising housing standards across the borough.

The Role

In this position, you will be responsible for handling a diverse caseload within the private rented sector, focusing on enforcement and compliance work. Duties will include:

  • Conducting HHSRS inspections and assessing property conditions
  • Responding to housing complaints, including disrepair cases
  • Managing HMO licensing applications and associated enforcement
  • Preparing and serving legal notices where required
  • Issuing financial penalties in line with relevant regulations
  • Engaging with landlords, tenants, and internal departments
  • Compiling cases for tribunal or legal proceedings

About You

  • Previous experience within Private Sector Housing in a Local Authority environment
  • Sound knowledge of housing legislation, including the Housing Act 2004 and HHSRS
  • Practical experience with HMO licensing and enforcement processes
  • Confidence in managing an independent caseload
  • Strong communication and organisational abilities

Contract Details

  • Rate: £50+ per hour
  • Duration: Initial 6 months, with scope for extension
  • Working Arrangements: Hybrid (2 days onsite)
  • Start Date: ASAP
