Food Safety Officer/Inspector

We are currently supporting a Local Authority in the North East with the recruitment of an experienced Food Safety Officer.
This role sits within the Food Safety team and will focus primarily on low risk inspections such as Categories Cs and Ds.
The successful candidate will have experience dealing with:
- Carrying out food hygiene inspections and risk-based interventions
- Investigating food safety complaints and responding to service requests
- Supporting local businesses to achieve and maintain food safety compliance
- Taking proportionate enforcement action in line with relevant legislation
- Providing practical advice and guidance to food business operators
- Managing food safety cases and maintaining accurate inspection records
The position requires an officer who can independently manage a varied caseload, undertake inspections, provide professional advice, and ensure compliance with relevant food safety legislation and local authority policies.
Requirements
- Proven experience with inspections in a local authority setting
- An appropriate qualification recognised for food law enforcement (e.g. Higher Certificate in Food Control or equivalent)
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (where required)
