I am currently supporting a South London Local Authority with the recruitment of an experienced Private Sector Housing Officer for an initial 6-month contract. This is an excellent opportunity to join a high-performing team and contribute towards raising housing standards across the borough.
The Role
In this position, you will be responsible for handling a diverse caseload within the private rented sector, focusing on enforcement and compliance work. Duties will include:
- Conducting HHSRS inspections and assessing property conditions
- Responding to housing complaints, including disrepair cases
- Managing HMO licensing applications and associated enforcement
- Preparing and serving legal notices where required
- Issuing financial penalties in line with relevant regulations
- Engaging with landlords, tenants, and internal departments
- Compiling cases for tribunal or legal proceedings
About You
- Previous experience within Private Sector Housing in a Local Authority environment
- Sound knowledge of housing legislation, including the Housing Act 2004 and HHSRS
- Practical experience with HMO licensing and enforcement processes
- Confidence in managing an independent caseload
- Strong communication and organisational abilities
Contract Details
- Rate: £50+ per hour
- Duration: Initial 6 months, with scope for extension
- Working Arrangements: Hybrid (2 days onsite)
