Stonehouse are currently assisting a Local Authority in the Midlands with the recruitment of an experienced and fully qualified Environmental Health Officer to support their Environmental Protection service. This position offers a broad and varied workload, covering environmental protection, pollution control, and regulatory enforcement across a diverse range of commercial and industrial premises.
The successful candidate will have experience in:
- Investigating statutory nuisance complaints, including noise, odour, dust, smoke, artificial light and other environmental issues
- Undertaking Environmental Protection inspections, site visits and investigations
- Monitoring air quality matters and contributing to pollution control initiatives
- Providing environmental advice in relation to planning consultations and development proposals
- Dealing with contaminated land enquiries and environmental incidents
- Applying legislation including the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and Environmental Permitting Regulations
- Investigating waste-related offences, fly-tipping and environmental crime affecting commercial and industrial land
The role requires an officer who is confident managing their own caseload, carrying out inspections and investigations and taking proportionate enforcement action while ensuring accurate case management and record keeping.
Requirements:
- Fully qualified Environmental Health Officer with a recognised Environmental Health qualification
- Previous Environmental Protection experience within a local authority
- Sound knowledge of Environmental Protection legislation and enforcement procedures
- Ability to manage a busy and varied workload with minimal supervision
- Full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle (where required)
