This is a full-time role working 36.25 hours per week - Thursday to Monday 10:00 till 18:00. Flexibility in working hours is required and overtime will be required to be worked at short notice during peak business demands during the week and at the weekend.

We are looking for a Food Microbiology Analyst to join our Eurofins Belfast laboratory working within a state-of-the-art Food Microbiology laboratory, with the following duties:

  • Preparation of media (agars etc.) to be used in microbiological analysis.
  • Food sample preparation in line with company protocols.
  • Microbiological analysis of water/food/feed/swabs samples in line with company protocols.
  • Collection of laboratory samples from customer sites (food only, when required).
  • General housekeeping of laboratory and prevention of cross contamination.
  • Accurate data entry on samples into laboratory database.
  • Accurate record-keeping associated with UKAS quality system.
  • Effective communication with all employees.
  • Report any anomalous results or situations to Line Manager.
  • Training and operation of relevant equipment.
  • Adhere to Health and Safety procedures within the laboratory.
  • Any other related activities as required by post.

Qualifications:

  • Degree in a related field or working experience within a similar role.
  • Experience of culture of microorganisms and knowledge of laboratory accreditation systems (ideally ISO 17025) is desirable.
  • Computer literate with experience of MS Office applications (in particular Excel).
  • Comfortable working in a busy environment.
  • Excellent organisational skills with the ability to work quickly and accurately.
  • Ability to work on own initiative as well as part of a team.
  • Strong communication skills.
