We are excited to be recruiting for a General Yard Assistant at our Newark Motor Auctions site - one of the largest independent used car auctions in the UK. Our team has been successfully helping customers buy and sell vehicles since our first auction back in 1971. Now in our fifth decade, we have become the area's go-to auto auction for members of the public and motor trade professionals wanting a quick, simple and effective way to buy or sell a used vehicle.
We are looking to recruit an experienced General Yard Assistant. The yard team is a core part of the Auction business, made up of various functions: Yard team, Inspections, VCP and Imaging. Team members are responsible for ensuring all processes within their department run efficiently and support the smooth operation of the day-to-day function.

An average day as a General Yard Assistant includes:
- Ensuring sales are delivered successfully and operational and customer service excellence are met at all times.
- Responsible for ensuring the smooth running of the yard operation, through timely vehicle movements and working within Auction processes and procedures, adhering to HSE requirements at all times.
- To arrange and support the organisation and display of vehicles prior to auction on behalf of the company and vendors.
- To assist in the manoeuvring of vehicles in order to provide a tidy and orderly appearance in the Yard.
- Ensure all vehicles are correctly presented with appropriate paperwork.
- Ensure you conduct yourself in a calm, polite and courteous manner whilst dealing with customers and team members.
- Ensure all aspects of Pre Inspection Process are carried out.
- Ensure the quality of images taken are to the highest standard.
- Make sure all lot numbers are displayed on vehicles.
- Communicate with the office if any vehicle has issues etc. and may come out of line or to the Back door.
- All deliveries are taken to the correct place with all the documents.
- All counter entries spec'd.
- Key check before sales.
- Number plates and fuel.
- Not sold list.
- All movements including on hold and returns.
- Any other ad hoc duties as when requested.
Your normal hours of work will be 40 hours per week, as follows:
- Monday, Wednesday and Friday: 9.00am to 5.00pm
- Tuesday: 9.00am to 8.00pm
- Thursday: 9.00am to 7.00pm
1 hour unpaid break for lunch by arrangement with your line manager.
About you:
- Must hold a valid UK driving licence.
- The ideal candidate will be reliable and conscientious with administration experience.
- Have experience of dealing with customers in person and over the phone.
- Strong attention to detail and a team player.
- Experience of working within rigid regulations and procedures.
- Excellence customer service skills.
- Strong administration skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills both verbal and written.
- To have a basic knowledge of HSE legislation.
- The ability to drive a variety of vehicles with all types of ignition procedures and transmission.
