The role

Working within the Revenues, Benefits and Financial Assessments section to facilitate and administer the process of billing for Council Tax, Sundry Debts and Business Rates. Assist with system development to continually improve the service and our customer journey.

Key responsibilities

  • Support accurate maintenance of Council Tax, Business Rates and Sundry Debt accounts, including processing liability changes, exemptions, discounts and payments.
  • Keep up to date with relevant legislation, policies and internal procedures.
  • Approve daily outgoing correspondence via the PSL portal.
  • Review online forms and customer correspondence to improve the customer journey.
  • Support development and improvements of systems used within the Revenues service.
  • Input data from system reports into spreadsheets for monthly forecasting.

About you

  • Knowledge of local authority billing, recovery and invoicing systems, including relevant legislation such as Council Tax, Business Rates, Housing Benefit and Welfare Reform Act 2012.
  • An understanding of Data Protection and GDPR and the impacts upon revenues work.
  • Experience of using billing and recovery systems with strong accuracy and attention to detail when data inputting.
  • Strong IT skills including Word, Excel and specialist systems.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build effective relationships with customers, colleagues and external partners.
