Stoke-on-Trent City Council are looking for Environmental Crime Officers to join the Environmental Crime Unit at The Weighbridge Site at Cromer Road in Northwood. The role is based within the Housing, Regeneration and Operations division.
Responsibilities
- Carry out environmental enforcement activities in line with relevant legislation, including fly‑tipping, duty of care, littering, dog fouling, illegal advertising/defacement, highway obstructions, unauthorised car repairs/sales, early refuse presentation and untidy land.
- Support the delivery of environmental enforcement services across the city.
- Identify and respond to low‑level anti‑social behaviour (ASB) linked to environmental issues, including nuisance behaviour in public spaces, waste‑related ASB and community complaints.
- Take appropriate enforcement action, including preparing and issuing Fixed Penalty Notices (FPNs), Community Protection Warnings (CPWs), Community Protection Notices (CPNs) and other legal documentation in line with legislation and council policies.
- Undertake both high‑visibility and covert patrols in hotspot areas to monitor, deter and respond to environmental offences and ASB.

- Relevant experience dealing with the public in frequently difficult situations.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Willingness to work unsociable hours.
- Understanding and commitment to providing a high‑quality customer and enforcement service.
- Ability to work well under pressure and remain calm in difficult situations.
- Ability to adapt to ever‑changing circumstances.
