Education Welfare Officer in Stoke-on-Trent

Actual Salary: £34,185.11 – £36,807.07 (under 5 years local government service) £34,959.19 – £37,640.52 (over 5 years local government service)

Hours: 37 hours per week

This advert is open to both Internal and External applicants.

This is a permanent post, working 37 hours per week, term‑time plus. You will work 38 weeks when the schools are open plus an additional 21 days during the school closure periods.

Responsibilities

• You will be responsible for providing a high‑quality education welfare service to school age children, schools and settings in Stoke‑on‑Trent.
• You will ensure that all children of compulsory school age receive education as required by law.
• Take prompt action when appropriate to resolve or prevent attendance or welfare problems, escalating any cases through the formal court proceedings where required.
• Work in partnership with children, young people and parents to understand and assess their learning and development needs capturing the needs and views of children.
• Work directly with young people to identify their needs and to develop their social education by providing an appropriate programme of activities, services and facilities within buildings and detached.
• Work with schools to ensure effective attendance processes are developed and implemented.

Qualifications

• You will have proven experience of working with children, young people and families and have in‑depth experience and knowledge of preventative and statutory education welfare strategies.
• You will be able to build effective working relationships and be persuasive, persistent and challenging when required.
