Stokes Medical Group provides care for a 40,000 patient population supported by a team of 130 clinical and administrative staff and delivered from three purpose-built medical premises.

Stokes Medical Group looks forward to welcoming a Practice Nurse to our clinical team. The role is expected to be based at the Stoke Gifford site but may need to work across the three surgeries. We are keen to find the right person for this role and training in treatment-room competencies can be given. We are also keen to support ongoing CPD to enhance the range of development pathways available to practice nurses.

The role is a 12-month fixed-term maternity cover contract and will be for 30 hours.

Main duties of the job:
  • Administering vaccinations and immunisations.
  • Chronic disease management, including diabetes, asthma, COPD, hypertension and CHD.
  • Contraception, STI checks and advice and cervical screening.

As part of the clinical team, you will participate in clinical supervision, ongoing CPD, team and practice meetings, and contribute to projects and audits. In addition to the treatment-room clinics, the post-holder will ideally support our chronic disease management with a focus on COPD and asthma.

While we prefer a Registered Nurse with training and experience in treatment-room procedures and chronic disease (COPD and asthma) training, training and support to undertake additional required qualifications will be provided.

About us: We are a friendly, patient-focused and progressive General Practice seeking a part-time Treatment Room Nurse to join the team and help provide care for nearly 40,000 patients. Our supportive clinical team includes doctors, chronic disease nurses, treatment room nurses, pharmacists, nurse practitioners/paramedics, a physio and a mental health nurse who deliver care from three purpose-built sites.

We strive to provide excellent care to our patients and are supported by a well-established and highly professional team. We are high QoF achievers, continually striving to improve our service. We are a training practice for GPs, nurses and HCAs and work hard to ensure that our nurses can take full advantage of training and development pathways.

Ideally, we are looking for a Registered Nurse with experience in delivering treatment-room procedures. However, full training can also be given to the right candidate.

We are situated in the popular North Bristol area (within South Gloucestershire CCG) with great transport links to M32, M4/M5 and Bristol Parkway station. Easy access to Bristol or rural areas of Yate, Thornbury, Gloucester or South Wales.

Job responsibilities:

We are looking for a Registered Nurse to provide excellent patient care; assess patient needs and plan, deliver and evaluate care provision. They will provide a professional service performing a range of relevant treatment-room activities without direct supervision and providing support to the GPs.

General Clinical:
  • Provide high quality patient care.
  • Participate in setting standards for care and auditing clinical outcomes.
  • Promote and participate in maintaining a safe and comfortable therapeutic environment.
  • Develop and implement health promotion programmes for clients and carers, and facilitate screening clinics.
  • Take responsibility for the safe storage and administration of drugs and equipment.
  • Provide information, advice and support to patients face-to-face and via the telephone.
  • Be involved in team discussions to ensure “best practice.”

Person Specification - Qualifications:
  • RGN Level 1 nurse already practising at a Band 5/6 (or equivalent) level.
  • Evidence of continuing professional development.
  • Chronic disease management, Asthma preferred.
  • Good keyboard skills and experience of using Microsoft Office (Word, Excel).
  • Diploma in chronic disease management.
  • Experience of using EMIS computer software.
Experience:
  • Experience working in a treatment room/practice nurse setting.
  • Experience working in teams within a clinical team setting.
  • Experience working in a multidisciplinary environment with a wide range of individuals at different levels.
  • Experience developing relationships with external agencies and organisations.
  • Experience in chronic disease and health promotion.
