By volunteering as a warehouse assistant, you will help process food donations, sorting items, ensuring they are in date, minimising wastage and packing food ready for distribution. You can make a real difference to people’s lives providing vital help and support in your local community. You will be working alongside a small team of volunteers and the Warehouse Manager. You will need to be physically fit as lifting and moving will be involved. Please note that PPE will be provided and full training will be given. A driving licence would be useful.
Working Days and Hours
Working days available to choose from: Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday. Working hours: 9.30am – 12.30pm.
Responsibilities
- Ensure incoming stock is checked, weighed, and recorded.
- Sort food by date and type, removing any items that are damaged or out of date, and weighing these out separately.
- Keep the warehouse area clean and tidy.
- Prepare stock orders for the foodbank centres.
Qualifications and Skills
- Have an eye for detail.
- Organised and self-motivated.
- Happy with some heavy lifting or able to ask for help when lifting.
- Able to read instructions and write down information.
- Able to take instruction.
- Strong team player; able to ask for support when needed.
- Able to learn new skills.
