The predicted salary is between 31000 - 42000 £ per year.

This is a fixed term contract covering maternity leave - the expected duration of the contract is 12 months but will be reviewed periodically with the post holder. The team are committed to improving housing conditions, management practices, anti-social behaviour and environmental crime in the private rented sector and protecting residents within our area, ensuring everyone has a safe and well-maintained home and environment where they live.

The emphasis in this role is to investigate non-compliant landlords, taking the lead on legal casework related to the Selective Licensing scheme, providing support in respect of progressing legal proceedings and enforcement and assisting with developing case files. You will play a lead role on the enforcement of selective licensing issues, requiring you to take compliance and enforcement action in line with the principles of the Councils Regulatory Services Policy and to attend prosecution and appeal hearings before the Courts or Tribunals as required.

As this is a fixed-term post, secondment opportunities will be considered for internal employees. Please obtain prior approval from your current line manager before completing the application. For further information, please refer to the council's secondment policy.

Qualifications
  • Experience writing witness statements, preparing case files and attending court or tribunal hearings.
  • Experience working in private sector housing, law, enforcement, licensing or a closely related area.
  • An understanding of the laws, regulations and guidance involved in taking enforcement action.
  • Experience preparing official notices and other legal documents.
  • A proven ability to lead investigations that result in prosecutions or other legal actions, following the correct procedures.
  • Strong communication skills and a flexible, professional approach that aligns with the Council's values.

We also welcome applications from candidates who have the relevant experience but may prefer reduced hours, part-time working, or a shorter contract to suit other commitments.   • 27 days annual leave per year rising to 32 with 5 years service (plus bank holidays). Ability to purchase additional leave is also available.
