BILLINGHAM FORUM
Billingham Forum is one of the most iconic leisure destinations in the Northeast. This wet and dry community facility has: 3 swimming pools, the North East’s leading Ice Arena, extensive, modern health and fitness provision, including sauna and steam room facilities and several activity and meeting rooms. The venue also boasts Go Climb, an interactive climbing wall experience.
THE ROLE
You will deliver an excellent customer service, through effective supervision and leadership of all operational team members. You will ensure the friendly and smooth running of the centre’s day-to-day operations, activities and programme, acting as the primary point for solving customer and employee issues to ensure a customer-focussed environment, whilst being responsible for the security, cleanliness, health and safety of the building and everyone in it. You will be responsible for the opening and closing of the centre and take responsibility for ensuring the Forum remains a safe, smart, fully functioning community space during opening hours.
Working as part of a team with other Duty Managers, you will:
- ensure the building and plant conditions are maintained within the facility and carried out in accordance with the TAL’s Operating Procedures, Emergency Action Plan, and Health & Safety guidelines and legislation.
- ensure efficient cost-effective staff rotas are in place with suitably qualified and trained staff, thereby ensuring the centre remains operational for the high customer base we strive to serve.
- ensure daily and weekly financial processes are followed in line with operational requirements and TAL’s Financial Policy and completed on time, including cashing up, reconciliations and operational float checks.
- ensure all daily records and logs are accurately maintained and recorded on MyTAL - including any incidents, near misses, and accidents/incidents.
- work with the General, Deputy and other Duty Managers to ensure recruitment is achieved in a timely manner and new team members are onboarded successfully, and they are closely managed and supported through their probation period and beyond.
- monitor, manage and mentor staff to perform at their best, but where needed be responsible for managing poor performance, and investigate potential disciplinary actions.
- contribute to the development of the service through ideas, project groups, 1-2-1’s and Job Chat process, etc.
- support promotional initiatives and marketing plans and assist with customer consultation work.
Hours of work will cover the full operating hours Monday to Sunday, working on a three-week shift pattern.

ABOUT YOU
This exciting, challenging and varied role at Billingham Forum requires pace, energy, resilience and high standards. The successful applicant will need to be customer-focussed, an effective leader and be able to deal with complex customer and facilities issues and work with a team of highly experienced leisure professionals – and possess a hunger to enhance their career through training opportunities and new qualifications. Previous employee supervision and a minimum of twelve months experience in a supervisory role is essential.
You must have (or be willing to attain):
- a National Pool Lifeguard Qualification
- a National Pool Plant Operators certificate
- a First Aid at Work qualification
- RLSS National Pool Lifeguard Trainer Assessor qualification
- management/supervisory qualification
In addition to this, the successful candidate must also be able to:
- deliver a consistent high-quality customer-focused leisure service.
- ensure a safe and healthy environment at all times for customers, staff, and contractors.
- provide an excellent customer service experience for all users of our facilities, as well as influence and maximise the income and usage of the facility and ensure a positive customer journey, to maximise Tees Active’s image and reputation, repeat custom, and increased income.
- be responsible for the day-to-day management of staff at our facilities in line with the Company’s policies and procedures - including (but not limited to) training and mentoring, performance management, shift patterns, and attendance.
- support with planning and delivery of leisure services across the centre.
- manage customer and team conflicts.
- demonstrate good IT, literacy and numerical skills.
- understand the importance of Health & Safety in the working environment.
- demonstrate excellent verbal and written communication skills.
