Westlands Academy is part of Horizons Specialist Academy Trust, which consists of eight Academies and one Sixth Form across the Tees Valley area and North Yorkshire, serving a population of over 1,000 students aged 5 to 19 with a broad range of learning difficulties. The Trust wishes to appoint a General Teacher to join the existing friendly team. Westlands Academy is located in Thornaby and caters for students aged 11–16 who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health Needs (SEMH). The post is not subject-specific, but experience of teaching English, a primary curriculum, or Humanities would be beneficial, though not essential. The role requires flexibility and the ability to contribute to a range of curriculum areas in response to student needs. The successful candidate will join an experienced and supportive team who are committed to high standards and to promoting the education and welfare of young people with SEMH. Responsibilities
- Work closely with staff to promote student learning, achievement and progress.
- Demonstrate flexibility and confidence in teaching a range of subjects; experience in English, Humanities or primary teaching is desirable.
- Have an awareness of, or willingness to develop an understanding of, the challenges and rewards of working with pupils with SEMH.
Qualifications and experience
The role is not subject-specific; however, experience of teaching English, a primary curriculum, or Humanities would be beneficial but is not essential. The Trust welcomes applications from both secondary and primary trained teachers.
