Locum General Surgery Emergency Consultant

Job Summary

To join a team that provides comprehensive consultant-based patient-centred management of Emergency General Surgical. The post-holder will be expected to contribute to a consultant‑led service and share responsibility for delivering high‑quality care to patients presenting to the Department.

The Appointment To This Post Has Two Main Aims

  • To join a team that provides comprehensive consultant-based patient‑centred management of General Surgical conditions.
  • To support the Surgical Same Day Emergency Care (SSDEC)/ Surgical Assessment Unit.

Responsibilities

  • Provide on‑call support out of hours and attend the Department as per agreed protocols.
  • Carry out ward rounds.
  • Participate in the undergraduate teaching programme.
  • Assist and participate in the development of postgraduate training for F1s, F2s, SpRs, STs and other staff.
  • Act as Educational Supervisor to junior and middle grade medical staff, responsible for their appraisal and personal development planning.

Qualifications

Prospective candidates should possess FRCS (general surgery) or its equivalent and should be on the Specialist Register of the General Medical Council (GMC) or be in receipt of the Certificate of Completion of Training (CCT) within six months of commencing.
