Job summary

The Trust is seeking a Consultant Microbiologist (/Consultant Clinical Scientist: [pay scale AFC 8d]) to provide strategic and clinical leadership for the microbiology and infection control service, and lead the team in the provision of the general microbiology service, infection prevention and service development.

The successful candidate will lead the clinical microbiology service, ensuring alignment with Trust objectives and national guidelines including NICE, UKHSA, RCPath, and BIA standards to ensure delivery of a high quality service.

The department is at establishment for consultant posts and all Consultants report as general microbiologists and cover all areas including clinical calls, authorisation, infection prevention, ward rounds and meetings.

SHH Microbiology Laboratory holds UKAS accreditation and provides comprehensive services to the population of Stockport and High Peak receiving a large and varied workload. Close working relationships with clinicians are maintained through weekly MDT meetings.

Main duties of the job

Core role:o Participate in the provision of consultant-level microbiology advice, result interpretation and authorisation, clinical liaison, and MDT attendanceo Contribute to the out-of-hours microbiology rotao Diagnostic service deliveryo Fulfil the role of lead for the IDPS serviceo Day to day supervision of diagnostic methods and examination of specimenso The quality assurance performance within the department, including EQAo The maintenance of full UKAS accreditationo Business planning, including the assessment and introduction of new methods and forward planning for staff and equipment requirements
