As a Cardiac Assistant you will work within the ECG – Cardiology out-patient department, providing high quality of care, compassion and personal care to patients and their families/carers. In order to do this, you would need to maintain high professional standards, effective communication, high level of confidence, be very organised and exhibit the Trust values. The main duties of the role will be to fit and download cardiac ambulatory monitors, perform ECG\’s and measurements of vital signs when required. Part of this role will involve the co-ordination of inpatient echo lists and the support of patient pre and post echocardiogram. As a cardiac assistant, you will be expected to demonstrate effective leadership within the department, by supporting staff, auditing equipment and raising concerns, taking the responsibility for the monitoring of patients when required and initiating interventions to address risks to health and safety and quality, and manage interventions to improve the service. Support & training will be provided by a team of professionals and an experienced leadership team who are committed to service improvement. The job role is part‑time, 16 hours per week covering Wednesday and Fridays only, 08:00‑16:30.
Responsibilities
- Prepare patients for ambulatory cardiac monitoring: initialise the device with patient demographic data, select the correct monitoring format as per referral, fit the device to maximise clarity of recording, instruct the patient on device use, record patient activity and refit device during extended monitoring periods. Troubleshoot and recognise errors. Correctly download device data once returned, analyse in database systems and upload the report to Solus and Advantis/Evolve.
- Choose correct cuff size for patients with ambulatory BP monitoring. Troubleshoot and recognise errors, particularly with high BMI patients or cardiac arrhythmia affecting BP recording.
- Accurately perform 12‑lead ECG on patients: for pre‑booked appointments, urgent walk‑ins, or as requested by physiologists, cardiac nurses or cardiology consultants during other procedures.
