Overview
The Pathology department at Stepping Hill Hospital (Stockport NHS Foundation Trust) is seeking a Medical Laboratory Assistant to join the Blood Sciences team to assist with processing samples that arrive in the lab in the evenings. The successful applicant(s) would be joining a friendly and passionate staffing group providing diagnostic services to the hospital patients and wider community.
Responsibilities
- Receipt, recording and preparation of a variety of patient samples e.g. blood, urine, faeces and other body fluids.
- Sort and identify specimens received in the Laboratory.
- Enter/enrol patient details and other data onto the computer.
- Assist the Biomedical Scientists in technical duties as required under supervision of the Biomedical Scientists.
- Perform general clerical duties associated with the work of the Laboratory, including filing, telephone answering, photocopying etc.
- Work with other team members to cover absence due to sickness and annual leave (this may include weekend and night shifts).
- Perform other miscellaneous duties under supervision and according to protocols laid down.
- The role supports the delivery of Blood Sciences services.
Qualifications and Skills
- Good standard of numeracy and literacy.
- Strong and accurate data entry skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Post-holder will be provided with full training to work in the Blood Sciences team.
