We are seeking a highly enthusiastic individual to support the Microbiology Section by registering samples and preparing them for analysis. The role involves ensuring reagents and media are ready for use and maintaining a clean laboratory environment. The successful candidate will perform routine microbiological tasks of a non-complex nature, demonstrating excellent problem-solving skills and initiative.

Quality Control North West, part of Stockport Foundation Trust, is an NHS regional department providing pharmaceutical quality control services to NHS and non-NHS clients. Our laboratories are well-equipped with advanced analytical instrumentation and are accredited to ISO 17025 by UKAS.

Key responsibilities include:

  1. Receiving, unpacking, and sorting environmental and pharmaceutical samples for analysis and reporting.
  2. Ensuring complete and accurate sample documentation and filing.
  3. Registering samples on the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS), assigning unique identifiers, and ensuring correct test requests.
  4. Sampling raw materials from the Pharmaceutical Production Unit, avoiding contamination, and applying hazard labels.
  5. Maintaining the laboratory environment through regular disinfection and waste disposal.
  6. Managing the receipt, storage, and distribution of media from suppliers to various units.
  7. Performing routine microbiological techniques, including aseptic procedures and sterility testing.
  8. Managing incubation of environmental samples at correct conditions and times.
