We’re looking for a passionate and resilient Rough Sleeper Outreach Worker to join our Housing Options team and play a vital role in helping to end rough sleeping across Stockport. This is more than a job, it’s an opportunity to support people at the most critical point in their lives and help them move towards safe, sustainable housing and brighter futures.
Working as part of the Greater Manchester Rough Sleeper Initiative, you’ll take a proactive, person-centred approach, meeting people where they are, building trust, and helping them take positive steps forward.
What you’ll be doing:
- Engaging directly with people sleeping rough, building trusted relationships
- Developing personalised housing and support plans
- Actively sourcing accommodation and removing barriers to access
- Carrying out outreach, including early mornings, evenings, and flexible working patterns
- Working in partnership with housing providers, health services, social care, and the police
- Mediating with family and friends to help secure alternative accommodation where possible
- Supporting Greater Manchester rough sleeper counts and wider initiatives
- Identifying safeguarding concerns early and taking action to protect vulnerable individuals
- Motivating and empowering people to move towards independence and stability
About you:

You will have:
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build trust quickly
- Experience or understanding of homelessness and the challenges people face
- Knowledge of housing legislation (e.g. Part 7 of the Housing Act 1996)
- A flexible, proactive approach to outreach work
- The ability to motivate and inspire positive change
- Strong organisational skills, including accurate record keeping
- A full driving licence and access to a vehicle
