START is part of the Healthy Stockport family of services and serves as a primary contact to deliver behaviour change support across smoking, physical activity, weight management, healthy eating, and substance misuse. We receive referrals from residents and professionals through phone, email and online form.
As a START Adviser you will respond to referrals, conduct initial triage sessions, provide brief advice on lifestyle issues and refer clients to specialist services. When substance misuse is identified you will offer immediate support, harm‑reduction guidance and coordinate urgent healthcare needs.
Schedule: 22.2 hours per week (part‑time) with a hybrid model – Stopford House and homeworking. Salary range: £17,158 – £18,613 pro rata.

- You have an understanding of the challenges people face when seeking lifestyle change and substance misuse support.
- You demonstrate an empathetic, non‑biased and non‑judgmental approach during conversations.
- You possess strong communication skills and can interact with GPs, social workers and members of the public.
- You are self‑motivated, able to prioritise workload, meet deadlines, have a confident telephone manner and are proficient with IT systems to record client information.
