The Youth Justice Assistant Service Lead is a strategic management lead, responsible for the delivery of youth justice, serious violence reduction, targeted support services and associated services, including complex safeguarding. The role leads and manages Team Leaders within a multi‑agency team, ensuring services comply with evidence‑based practice, legislative and statutory requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead the delivery of youth justice, serious violence reduction and targeted support services.
  • Manage Team Leaders and support a cross‑agency team to meet statutory and legislative obligations.
  • Ensure services are evidence‑based, quality assured and meet the HMIP framework.
  • Prepare the service for inspections and ensure inspection readiness.
  • Participate in the Greater Manchester Youth Justice Transformation programme and collaborate with the 10 Greater Manchester Local Authorities through the Safer Stockport Partnership.

About You

  • Willing and able to work within the statutory multi‑agency service, providing a restorative approach through Stockport Family and community safety functions.
  • Experience in the Greater Manchester Combined Authority framework, Youth Justice Board and Ministry of Justice national requirements is desirable.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Minimum degree level, plus a relevant professional qualification and registration (e.g., Social Work, Probation).
  • Significant recent experience of working in a Youth Justice Service or a similar multi‑agency partnership that deals with the factors leading children and young people into crime.
  • Experience supervising managers who support teams working with complex and often chaotic young people.
  • Experience with quality assurance, HMIP framework compliance and inspection readiness.

Working Hours & Conditions

  • Work includes weekend, bank holiday and out‑of‑hours duty as part of the management duty rota system (additional pay).
  • Pre‑employment clearances: Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
  • Visa sponsorship: This role does not currently require a visa sponsorship licence.
  • Guaranteed Assessment Scheme: Candidates who meet the scheme criteria will be guaranteed a shortlist assessment.
