The Family Drug and Alcohol Court (FDAC) is a national therapeutic, problem-solving court model, which offers an alternative route to standard care proceedings. FDACs use a trauma-informed approach to help families address their difficulties with substance/alcohol use, relationships, mental health concerns and other complex issues.
Your role will require you to provide expertise, assessment, support and intervention to parents, where domestic abuse and relationship issues are prevalent and who require the specialist interventions of a Domestic Abuse worker. You will work closely with a range of other professionals, both within the team and externally. Your role will require you to contribute to regular court reports and also to attend court on occasions to support your allocated families through the FDAC proceedings.
About You
The ideal candidate will have knowledge, understanding and experience of working with families where domestic abuse has been a key feature, including experience of providing direct intervention with both victims and alleged perpetrators. You will have an understanding of other risk factors that are addressed within the team too, including drug and alcohol use issues, mental health difficulties and trauma. You will be interested in working to address parent’s difficulties in a holistic and therapeutic manner. You will be an empathetic and creative worker, who is interested in working intensively with families to help create lasting change. You will have good problem-solving skills, be a team player and be non-judgmental in your approach. You must have the ability to remain calm and compassionate in challenging and difficult situations. You will have education to degree level in a relevant field, such as social work, counselling, psychology or similar. IDVA training qualification or equivalent is desirable. The successful candidate will need a driving licence, access to a car during working hours and business insurance.
About Us
The specialist multi-disciplinary FDAC team includes therapeutic social workers, clinical psychologists, substance misuse, domestic abuse and parenting workers to provide intensive support, built around the family, designed to enable and empower parents to overcome their difficulties. You will participate in regular multidisciplinary formulations, where we will draw on the team's expertise to plan the most helpful interventions to suit the family’s needs. You will have the opportunity to work closely with all team members, including the FDAC Clinical Psychologist, to develop your own specialist knowledge and resources to effect change. You will receive regular high-quality supervision and support, career development opportunities and the chance to be part of implementing the FDAC innovative model. You will have access to specialist training to help develop your understanding of the FDAC model and therapeutic approaches used.
