Role Overview: Specialist Teacher of Children and Young People with Vision Impairment (TVI). Start date: September 2026 or as soon as possible after that. The role is part of the Stockport Hearing and Vision Specialist Service and involves a balance of peripatetic work in educational settings and homes across Stockport.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide specialist teaching support to children and young people with vision impairment, using personalised learning strategies.
  • Work peripatetic in schools, day centres and home environments to deliver inclusive education and welfare support.
  • Collaborate closely with the Team Leader, colleagues and other professionals to plan and assess individual development plans.
  • Contribute to safeguarding and well-being of all children and young people, following statutory guidance.

Qualifications:

  • Completed mandatory TVI training and holding the required qualification.
  • Experience or current enrolment in the TVI mandatory training course.
  • Early years, secondary mainstream and/or post-16 teaching experience is desirable, especially with children with additional complex needs.
  • Knowledge of MPS/UPS and SEN allowance structures is preferred.

Employment Details:

  • Type: Permanent.
  • Hours: 26 hours per week (4 days) initially, with potential to become full-time 32.5 hours from May 2027.
  • Location: Stockport, with peripatetic duties across educational settings and homes.
