Your Role
Stockport has been recognised nationally as a great place to live and work, including being recognised as ‘Council of the Year’ at the MJ Awards. As a Senior Engineer (Highway Design & Construction), you’ll play an important part in our ambition to develop transport infrastructure that is green, inclusive, resilient, and safe, helping to reduce air pollution and lower our overall carbon emissions. Working alongside experienced professionals as part of multi‑disciplinary project teams, you will assist with the successful development and delivery of schemes throughout the detailed design and construction phases through to hand over into operations and maintenance. You will play a key role in delivering safe, efficient, and deliverable designs for our capital programme, while contributing to staff development and the continuous improvement of our processes.
About You
We’re looking for two motivated and experienced professionals with a strong background in delivering highways projects within the public sector through detailed design and on‑site construction. You’ll have a proven ability to work collaboratively across multidisciplinary teams to meet challenging deadlines, designing and managing highways schemes for delivery to site. You’ll bring hands‑on experience in detailed design of highway schemes with competing priorities. Your ability to work with the supply chain will be key to ensuring timely, high‑quality outcomes. A solid understanding of asset‑management principles and how they inform long‑term planning, investment decisions, and lifecycle management of infrastructure will be essential. Experience in active travel initiatives and a thoughtful approach to how infrastructure supports placemaking will be a distinct advantage.
About Us
The role is based within our Capital Delivery Service, within Strategic Infrastructure. You will work alongside teams who project‑manage our capital projects as well as maintain the highway infrastructure. You will be joining a committed, supportive and diverse team of staff, consultants and partner organisations. We are proud of what we achieve together, delivering sustainable infrastructure schemes that will shape the future of transport in Stockport. There will be opportunities to develop your own skills and career as you play a key role in delivering a variety of projects alongside experienced professionals from across the service. We are proud to be recognised under the Good Employment Charter as an organisation committed to the wellbeing of our colleagues. As members of the charter, we have been recognised as a great place to work for all colleagues and pledge to pay the real living wage, engage staff in key decisions and endorse fair and flexible working conditions.
